Completely Unique Aprons & "Things"
Lizzie Tish is a spoonerism of the original Tizzie Lish, a comedic character from a very popular radio show that ran from 1929-1947.
My middle name is Elizabeth. I assume that is why my grandfather called me Lizzie Tish. I loved being at my grandparents' house in Brooklyn. In the house, my grandmother always wore an apron.
However, my grandmother didn't just stay in the kitchen. She went to the World's Fair eleven times, three of them with me. We saw The Pieta there. She took me to my first Broadway show with Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway playing in Hello Dolly! We went to tea at Macy's in the city, trying on all the perfume going into and out of the store. A habit I still practice. She introduced me to The City and when we got home from our adventures, as she called them, she's put her apron on and start whatever she had to do. My grandfather would say, "Well, Miss Lizzie Tish, did your grandmother take you traipsing all over the city?"
